Build 4 The Future

Build4TheFuture is a transformative initiative which helps young people in the UK understand the world around them, while providing much-needed shelter for child-headed families in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal region.

Learning by doing

We believe in the power of ‘learning by doing’.

Young volunteers from the UK travel to South Africa and help construct homes. By physically building a home from scratch, our young volunteers learn ‘anything is possible’ and that they can make a significant contribution to society.

In turn, this enhances their self-esteem and sense of belonging to a community that transcends borders, while learning the vital skill of teamwork.

Be part of a community

Our volunteers often find themselves bricklaying alongside local teenagers, leading to a rich cultural exchange and mutual learning.

Evenings are not just about rest, they are about connection. Volunteers spend time with the children and babies of the families for whom they are building homes. Many of these children are living with HIV/Aids, and the experience serves as an eye-opener for the young volunteers on the challenges faced by others.

How we've changed lives...

We have already built 80 houses for child-headed or vulnerable families. Each home costs us £4,800 to build, a small amount for a lifetime of security for these families.

Beyond just a roof, we ensure that each child has a bed, warm blankets and even a hand-knitted Teddy from our lovely ‘Knitting Nannies’ making them feel safe, secure and loved.
